CFOG President Kate Farrish announced on March 1 the selection of Jim Welch as the new interim director for the organization.

Welch will take over the duties of Katherine Garner, who served as CFOG’s executive director for more than 15 years.

In a farewell letter, Farrish thanked Garner for her work in growing the influence and reach of CFOG during her decade and a half with the organization.

“Small organizations with big missions – groups such as CFOG – cannot succeed, much less prosper, unless there are good people working very hard to keep it afloat. You, over many years, embodied that type of wonderful person,” Farrish wrote.

Welch, who previously served as a digital producer and editor for the Hartford Courant, now works as marketing and development coordinator at the Ben Bronz Academy in West Hartford.

“I’m thrilled to work with such amazing members of CFOG’s board of directors to inform the public, educate students and promote open government across Connecticut,’’ Welch said. “It’s an honor to continue CFOG’s work to ensure government transparency at the local and state level.”

“CFOG is excited to bring Jim on board,’’Farrish said of Welch. “His experience, collegiality and interest in open government makes him a natural fit for us.”
