President’s Column

By Gary Gold
President, Connecticut Foundation for Open Government

Last summer I appointed temporary chairs of the committees through which the Foundation conducts its business- New Initiatives, Marketing and Communications, Membership and Development, Essay Contest and Program. In October I sent out a dues letter and followed-up in December, the results of which were uniformly positive. We held our first annual news round-up in January, chaired by David Fink, and the event was well-attended and well-received. It also helped to fill our coffers considerably. In March we held our first annual foray into local schools and colleges to expostulate on freedom of speech. This was chaired by Mitch Pearlman and Denis Horgan, aided and abetted by a panoply of expert lawyers and journalists as lecturers. The feedback from faculty and students was glowing. Finally, we produced this newsletter and conducted our annual essay contest for high school students. I will provide further information about our activities at our annual meeting in June. I hope to see you there!
